- Bluefin Grille: Located in the nearby town of Tofte, Bluefin Grille offers stunning lake views and a menu filled with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Their outdoor patio is perfect for a summer meal. Grab food to go and enjoy dinner 'picnic style' down by the lake or back at your cabin.
- Coho Café: Just a short ride from our resort, Coho Café is a cozy spot known for its hearty breakfasts, fresh sandwiches, and delicious baked goods. It’s an ideal stop for a morning bite before heading out on an adventure.
- Fika Coffee: If you’re a coffee enthusiast, don’t miss Fika Coffee in nearby Lutsen. Their artisanal brews and friendly atmosphere make it a great place to relax and recharge.
The Best Hikes to Beat the Heat
Tofte is a hiker’s paradise, offering trails that range from easy strolls to challenging treks. Here are some of the best hikes to help you cool off this summer:
- Temperance River State Park: This park features several trails that run alongside the Temperance River, providing plenty of opportunities to dip your toes in the water and cool off. The scenic waterfalls and gorges are a must-see.
- Oberg Mountain Loop: A moderate 2.25-mile loop offering panoramic views of Lake Superior and the surrounding forests. The higher elevation often brings cooler temperatures, making it a perfect summer hike. Plus, we are located right below it for easy access so you can enjoy both a sunrise and sunset hike.
- Onion River: One of our favorite hikes (and lesser known places to take a dip) is just minutes away from Tofte Trails! Pack your swimsuit, plenty of water/snacks/sunscreen and hiking shoes/sandals with GOOD grip if you want to head into the river. Park at Ray Berglund State Wayside (just off of hwy 61) and hike up the stairs (take in the lake views). Keep going on the trail OR head down to the river and explore! If you go deeper you will come across a STUNNING waterfall. Caution: rocks in the river can get slippery so having hiking poles is recommended. Bring your dog, too! Our favorite tip: walk across hwy 61 when you are done and walk down the little hidden path to Lake Superior. Walk to the left for rock cliffs and crashing waves to sit and enjoy the view!
- Cascade River State Park: Known for its cascading waterfalls and lush forested trails, Cascade River State Park offers several hiking options. The shaded trails and cool river water create a refreshing hiking experience.
Dog-Friendly Options
We know that summer adventures are best enjoyed with your furry friends, so we’ve ensured that our resort and the surrounding area are dog-friendly. Many of the hiking trails in the area, including those in Temperance River and Cascade River State Parks, welcome dogs on leashes. Additionally, several local restaurants, such as the outdoor seating areas at Bluefin Grille and Coho Café, are happy to accommodate well-behaved dogs (always call before to double check their policies).
